Lasting Impressions
Working from my studio in Oregon I developed a technique using scraps of fabric I collected in Nairobi, Kenya as building blocks to create patterns and images evocative of my five years living there. The hybrid mosaic and collage technique combined with evocative design transform my personal experience to one that can be shared with the viewer.
Continuing with the mosaic/collage technique I next used small photographic fragments, discards of my husband's photographic printing process, to create images representing our time living in the US Virgin Islands. I introduced acrylic paints into the process to strengthen the color and contrast between ground and figure. Naturally, water is a common thread in most of these images.
Our daily walks in the Oregon landscape and the feeling of an abundance of time, beauty and love inspired me to make large works to express my pleasure with life.
Many of my paintings shown here were selected for group exhibitions and all of the works pictured here have sold.
